Edible insects fast becoming the new super food

Katharine Tilston

Dried insects are the new buzz food, packed with iron and protein but would you pack them in your lunch box?

Made popular by Im A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Sainsbury's continues to stock the edible insect brand Eat Grub nationwide. But they don't stop at flavoured crickets, the company sell protein powder, worms, grasshoppers and more. Even giving us some recipe ideas to use their products. Grasshopper stir fry anyone?

Although are they a snack Sheffield Hallam students are getting behind?

The crunchy snacks are in their second year being stocked by the grocery store, Rachel Eyre, Head of Future Brands at Sainsbury's said "“Insect snacks should no longer be seen as a gimmick or something for a dare, and it’s clear that consumers are increasingly keen to explore this new sustainable protein source.

"With the growing interest in edible insects we’re excited to be the first UK supermarket to make these products easily accessible for shoppers across the country.”
