Journo Resources came to Sheffield to offer some great contacts and aspects into career options for students in Journalism.
Journalism Careers Fair has given many students the opportunity to explore the vast range of Journalism Jobs available today. Journo Resources showcased a lot of talented companies and contacts at Sheffield Hallam University, Saturday 26 June 2019.
Students came to Sheffield from all over the UK to explore the different pathways journalism had to offer through some talented industry bodies. The event ran successfully, bringing together popular industries such as Bloomberg, JournoLink, Student Publication Association (SPA) and News Associates. Trainers included the founder of Journo Resources and freelance journalist Jem Collins, Dr Lily Canter, a leading money, health and lifestyle journalist, and Jack Dearlove, Digital Editor at LEGO.
The event held three in-depth workshops with the Journo Resources team. Started off with ‘polish your CV and Cover Letter’ in the morning, before learning ‘how to craft the perfect pitch’. After some lunch and the opportunity to speak to some of the spokespeople, Tet Kofi, Executive Consultant for ‘Yangatv’ gave an insight on what JournoLink has to offer:
“Journo Resources helped get JournoLink to you. It is an online platform which connects businesses with people who create content, whether they’re journalists or PR’s. So, you sign up at JournoLink for free and we will send you content from small businesses with new stories they will be putting out.”

The Global Business Executive Editor at Bloomberg, Brian Bremner gave students an in-depth analysis of what his company has to offer:
“Bloomberg covers international politics like Brexit. What really makes Bloomberg’s coverage rather distinctive is the fact that we are interested more on the analytics. We are interested in the personalities, but we are more interested in the policy of what it means in the real world of companies and markets. We take it very seriously. I encourage everyone to give us a look.”

The event also consisted of a closing panel from the industry insiders such as, Bloomberg’s Brian, Managing Editor of Business Insider Emma Smith, Tet Kofi of JournoLink and Hazel Davis of Muse Flash about the future of the industry and the skills you will need.
Emma Smith said: “There are many prospects for students to go out there and reach for potential through these events and really find what there is with journalism and how you can use your knowledge and skills and apply it to today’s current issues and affairs.”
