Boris Johnson has called a state of emergency COBRA meeting today with the governments emergency committee, following more threats to flooding throughout South Yorkshire and Sheffield. The meeting comes as the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for Thursday.

The Met Office warning states: "A period of heavy rain may affect the area through Thursday, bringing further risks to communities being cut off, danger to life and danger to travel."

A minimum of 25mm of rain is expected to fall, although this could see levels as deep as 40-50 mm.

Lisa Brown, 39, who was stranded at Meadowhall earlier in the week said: "I can't remember flooding this bad for a long time, I've worked at Meadowhall for the past 10 years and a couple of times there's been a danger of the River Don flooding, but to see the whole of Sheffield under water really does worry me.

"There needs to be some serious help put in place for areas around Sheffield for the next few months if this weather is to carry on."

The emergency meeting came after Jeremy Corbyn sent a letter to the Prime Minister stating that if the floods had happening in Surrey instead of South Yorkshire a state of emergency would have been "far more likely".
