Sheffield Squids placed 8th in the 2019 Quidditch Northern Cup, missing out on the European Qualification Tournament (EQT) by one position.
Becca Livesey, 21, Captain of the Sheffield Squids said: "We’re all disappointed not to make it through to EQT but we’re all proud of the quality of Quidditch we played this weekend.
"Sheffield placed higher this weekend than they have at any previous Northern Cup. It was a very tight final match and Chester are very deserving of a spot at EQT. Our focus is now on the British Quidditch Cup in March and developing our second team."
Sheffield's second team, Sheffield Steelfins, placed 19th, securing their place in the Development Cup in March 2020.
Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park, on Bawtry Road, hosted the Quidditch Northern Cup for a third year in a row.
Twenty teams competed for the title of Regional Champion, as well as fighting for their place at the inaugural European Qualifying Tournament and the British Quidditch Cup in 2020.
Velociraptors Quidditch Club of Nottingham were crowned 2019 champions for the fourth year in a row and automatically qualify for the 2020 European Quidditch Cup in Belgium.

Emily Stephens, Assistant PR Director for QuidditchUK, 27, said: "As a non-playing volunteer it was amazing to watch how much each player improved over the weekend and how much teams bonded. When it was my first northern, I was really worried about playing well, but when I got there I forgot all about that and just enjoyed it. A lot of people had a similar experience this year. We had a few hiccups with the weather but all in all it was a great tournament."
