60% of young people now rely on a ‘side hustle’ to keep up with cost of living.
A recent survey by Milkround a job site has found that over three in five young people have a side job on top of their part time jobs and studying to increase their cash flow.
In fact 40% said that without their extra jobs they wouldn’t be able to afford rent.
We wanted to know just how far young people and students are willing to go to make that little bit of extra cash.
We spoke to Jenny, a third-year student whose Only Fans account pockets her over £20,000 a year.
“I started it as just a side thing, id post just pictures from holidays or If i was trying on some new clothes, then as people would subscribe, they’d start to request certain pictures”
“Obviously the pictures aren’t free, every time they subscribe, I earn £12 and for every picture is more money on top.”
Only Fans is a new craze site that has the likes of Glamour model Danielle Lloyd signing up, although the site has come with some sceptics claiming it to be a ‘soft porn site’.
“I’ve had some really weird messages from men, at times it really does creep me out when I think all these random people are seeing pictures of me in my underwear”
“To be honest it’s not something I would recommend to girls, at the time I really needed money and I tried all sorts, surveys online, cash back schemes and nothing worked.
Obviously Only Fans works and get i so much money from it but I’ve always got a really weird feeling about it.”

The site launched 3 years ago and since then its popularity has grown amongst young people to make some extra money.
The platform allows ‘creators’ to run a subscription-based content service. Where other strangers can ‘subscribe’ as ‘fans’ to their account receiving exclusive access to videos and images they choose to upload.
Although it isn’t explicitly advertised as part of the adult entertainment business, one quick search of users dedicated Instagram or twitter accounts will give an insight of just the type of content that is uploaded.
SHU Student welfare officer Lauren Kaye, 24 told us her thoughts on the new ways students are making money, "If students are struggling with money whilst at uni there are so many other options than putting themselves at risk by trying to make money online.
"Theres no need to isolate themselves, the uni offer so many support resources like food vouchers for anyone struggling. Going online trying to meet sugar daddies or Only fans shouldn't be the first option."
We contacted Only Fans for a response to the issues surrounding the site.
