The majority of Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) students (47%) said the NHS was the most important issue of the 2019 election.
Brexit fell second, as just 27% of students said it was a political issue that mattered to them the most.
It’s election day, and for the first time in nearly 100 years, it’s a December general election. Students are a key demographic voting in this political battle.
Sheffeed conducted a survey on 87 Sheffield Hallam University students to get their perspective on the 2019 General Election.

Of the 87 respondents, more than half (54.5%) said they are voting Labour. Just under half (47%) said that the NHS was the most important political issue, followed by Brexit.
Adult Nursing student Jack Smith, 21, said: “A Conservative majority could slowly push through bills which lead towards a more privatised healthcare system. Brexit is a non-issue until we know what deal we are getting.”
Biomedicine student, Georgianna Horsley, 21, said: “I think everyone has had a personal experience with the NHS where they've had long waits for A&E, or have struggled to get a doctor’s appointment when they need it.
“People are suffering because cuts to the NHS make it impossible for doctors and nurses to do their jobs. There are so many stories of nurses relying on food banks but they’re working 40+ hours a week.
“Even though Brexit is a major issue, I think the current NHS crisis is just as important.”
Despite a majority Labour vote amongst SHU students, 59.1% believe the Conservative party are going to win the election.
Opinion polls seem to be telling a similar story, with the Conservative party still in front of Labour and favourites to win a majority government.
