The rise of stress in relation to university work is increasing as lecturers take eight days off due to the strike during peak workloads.
Members of the University and College Union (UCU) announced eight days of strike starting this month at 60 universities across the UK with more than 1 million students set to be affected by it.
Action is being taken over two separate disputes; one regarding pensions and the other about pay and the working conditions. Strikes have resulted in cancelled lectures and seminars during important deadlines which are bringing a toll on students with often no plans to reschedule lost teaching time.
Carolyn Waudby, Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University and who is a member of the union said: “We are committed to giving you the best education: our working conditions are our teaching and learning conditions”.
She continued:
“All students should demand that management refunds you for any missed classes; after all, it’s causing stress for you and all the workload that’s due in so close this coming month and frankly I cannot help”.
Students, who have to pay up to £9,250 annually in tuition fees, have already begun to demand for refunds to be given back for missed lectures and seminars.
